Yellow Squash Muffins
Last weekend I noticed at our neighborhood farmer’s market that yellow squash were still available, and at lower prices. I’m sure some of you have had more than your share of yellow squash over the summer, but if you have an abundance of them and you’re not quite sure what to do with them, here’s an easy recipe. The muffins were moist and lightly flavorful. If you like...

The American Gentleman
This photo of Gregory Peck is irresistible, for obvious reasons, more so because most of the photos I’ve seen of the dashing Mr. Peck shows him clean-shaven. He pulls off the rugged + suit combo exquisitely. Source and more info about him here.

Swiss Chard is everywhere at the Farmer’s Market. $2 for a beautiful, bountiful bunch. I tossed this in with spaghetti, garlic, and olive oil, and voila a good healthy meal on a budget for two days.

Intimate Iceland Wedding
If I could do this I would. This Michigan couple - Echo and Ryan - married in a small chapel in Iceland with just a handful of their close family members. When the landscape is this beautiful, you don’t need much decorations. From Ruffled.

I live in an apartment where every view out the window is that of other people’s apartments. My outdoor space is the concrete walkway. And that’s the way it’s been in several apartments in several different states. Not that it ever bothered me, especially in New York City where it’s commonplace. But during the warmer months, it makes me long for an outdoor space much like...

Avo Smoothie
I previously posted an Avocado Smoothie recipe which included Fuji apples. This one is better (and less expensive)! All you need to do is blend one avocado, one frozen banana, several spoonfuls of vanilla yogurt, some water, and agave nectar and you’re good to go. This tasted almost like melted green tea ice cream, except sweeter. It’s become my perfect post-jumping rope afternoon...

Environmental Working Group's Cancer Prevention... →
According to the EWG, the President’s Cancer Panel issued a landmark report last month suggesting that public health officials “grossly underestimated” the extent of environmentally-induced cancer among the in 1.5 million Americans diagnosed with the disease annually. Of course no one’s surprised by this, but the EWG has compiled nine practical tips for consumers to reduce...

Mama's Kitchen
There’s nothing like mom’s good lookin’ home cookin’. No matter how relatively simple the food may be, the flavors are something we can’t duplicate at home. Made with love, and it shows. Pictured here, spicy southwestern style chili topped with avocado, salad with the best local dressing I’ve tasted, and garlic bread.

Gas Works Park
This past Saturday was the warmest day of the year in Seattle (mid-70s), and the sun (shockingly) stayed with us all day. You better believe we took advantage of this, so we spent our day at Gas Works Park. The remnant of the coal gasification plant make the park unique, and the Seattle skyline and water views from this park are beautiful.

It’s almost summer, yet the weather in Seattle has been gray, wet, and quite frankly more like the start of Winter. So when the sun suddenly appeared out of nowhere around 4 PM on Memorial Day, I ran out the door. I have never appreciated the color blue more than I do now.  View from Volunteer Park.

Mexico 2000 - Brooklyn, NY
It’s surprisingly hard to find good, authentic Mexican food. Mexico 2000 in Brooklyn, New York was an exception. Probably the only good Mexican food we had in New York. The price is fair, the portions are generous, the flavors are all there. Head to the back of this small grocery store and order the food to go (there’s one small table and it gets crowded).
